Christ was different from men; he was totally submissive to God.

Look at his words concerning his mission for God: "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me" (John 6:38).

"And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt" (Matthew 26:39).

His mission led him through danger and even death, yet he obeyed the will of the Father.

He was submissive to God in his teaching.

"Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marveled, saying ‘How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?’ Jesus answered them and said, ‘My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me’ (John 7:14 -16).

Finally, we see that Christ was submissive even unto death.

"And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:8).

He knew his mission. He would suffer pain and death. Yet, he was willing to submit to the Father’s will. Jesus set the example that all men need to follow.

The sacrifice made by Christ caused him to suffer humiliation and pain.

The Savior of mankind was subjected to illegal trials, mocking, beatings, having people spit upon him and, finally, to being crucified on the cross. He was tried by both the Jewish courts and the Roman courts.

Pilate, who could have set Christ free, chose to please the crowds rather than release one who was innocent of all the charges made against him. All these things Christ endured to be the sacrifice for mankind. What a paradox this picture is, one of cruelty and wickedness, yet one of love and mercy.

In this picture, mankind sees the great love God has (John 3:16). Realizing what a sacrifice was made for mankind should cause one to want to take advantage of the salvation offered to us by God.

The Hebrew writer stated, "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins" (Hebrews 10:4).

In order for mankind to be able to have this forgiveness that was needed, the blood of Christ had to be shed. This sacrifice was willingly made by the Savior.

"For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins" (Matthew 26:28).

At his trial, there was no one to plead his case. Mocked, beaten, and all the while he stood not saying a word. He stood steadfast in following the Father’s word. Surely, it can be seen that man today must also steadfastly follow God’s word.

Believe in Jesus, that he is God’s Son, repent of sin, confess Jesus before men, be baptized for the remission of sin, and live for God every day.

Christ set the example for all to follow.
