Being physically and spiritually fit can be beneficial.
The women’s ministry at Baconton Missionary Baptist Church in Walthourville is concerned about church members’ overall fitness and they’re doing something to promote good health.
At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, the church will have a healthy luncheon featuring keynote speaker Lt. Col. Thomas L. Hundley of Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart. Hundley is one of the most in-demand Christian fitness and aerobics instructors in the Southeast. He has been promoting group and personal fitness for more than 10 years.
A native of Waynesboro, Miss., Hundley serves as the chief of logistics at Winn Army Community Hospital. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from South Carolina State University and a master’s of science in logistics management from the Florida Institute of Technology.
A certified group fitness instructor, personal fitness trainer and sports nutritionist, Hundley is the founder of Fit for a King Fitness Ministries. The ministry’s mission is to improve the health and physical fitness of individuals through Christian-based programs. The ministry’s ultimate objective is to assist people in establishing closer relationships with God while improving their overall health and fitness.
A dynamic motivational speaker, Hundley travels extensively across the nation. He often is invited to do presentations for Christian organizations. He also is the author of the book, “Fit for a King,” which includes a workout DVD.
Hundley has appeared on several internationally syndicated television and radio shows, including The Rejoice Show on TCT network, The Harvest Show on LeSEA network, and The Debbie Chavez Radio Show. For the past year, Hundley has been conducting fitness classes from 4:30-
5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Winn Army Community Hospital.
“We had about 10 people in the first class at Winn and five of them were from logistics. Now we have about 70 people,” Hundley said. “There are 15 people who have lost 30 or more pounds and five have lost at least 40 or more pounds. We do things that target certain body parts. I enjoy the sessions and the people need and want them.”
Additionally, he leads classes from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at First Baptist Church in Richmond Hill.
“Every class begins and ends with prayer. I put God first in everything I do,” Hundley said.
The fitness guru claims Philippians 4:13 is his favorite scripture: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
“I am looking forward to the Fit for a King session at Baconton. I will give out some information and they will also work some. Come prepared to receive,” he said.
According to Hundley, Fit for a King classes leave many participants with increased energy. “We eat the wrong things and then do nothing to combat it,” he said. “When you eat right, your body will conform. You will then see a size reduction and weight reduction. God will use me to motivate you and to help you get to know Him better. Then He can use you for His purpose.”
Hundley’s Fit for a King Fitness Ministries is available for conferences, conventions, church programs and other events where attendees want to experience the ultimate Christian fitness experience. The ministry provides on-site fitness and aerobics classes for people of every age, gender and size. For additional information about the ministry, go to  www.thundley.com.
Hundley has two daughters, Peyton and Erin, who live in Charlotte, N.C.
