God is a sure bet in a world of gambles

I was watching a game show the other day in which the contestants had to choose between one door and the other, or between one choice and another. In each situation, there was a chance they would either win or lose. They only hoped to be lucky enough to make the right decisions.

On the other hand, there are game shows in which you win or lose based upon knowledge. If you know the right answers, you have a great chance of winning.

The thing about a game show is, for the most part, the contestants have nothing invested that they can lose. They miss out only on obtaining more trips, money and things that they previously didn’t possess. The problem is that people often play games of chance with their lives, their eternal future, where there is something to lose.

There is truth that you can bank on, that’s solid and secure. Jesus himself said that he is the truth in John 14:6, and the Apostle Paul said in his first letter to Timothy that God “wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). Some choose to gamble by rejecting Jesus Christ and go with some other religion or no religion at all. They only hope that their decision is the right one — like rolling dice, hoping that their number comes up. If we were talking about just missing out on some prize, then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. But the Bible makes it very plain that there are severe consequences for those who reject Jesus Christ.

There is good news: There is no gamble when one chooses to follow Jesus Christ. You can wake up each and every day with the assurance of where you will go if you should die. There is only one door to choose. Open it, and you are a winner every time.
