Most days I don’t take the time to watch the morning news, though occasionally I check out the weather and top stories. The No. 1 reason that I don’t even want to turn the television on is because of the commercials.

I know what I am about to say may bring on some disagreement, but hear me out. I believe that at least 50 percent of all commercials are telling me that I need to find a reason to sue someone. I’m not saying that doing so is always wrong, but I do believe it needs to be a last resort.

The Bible does tell us in 1 Corinthians 6 that Christians are to handle things among themselves out of court. I know that people argue that it is not suing the individual but insurance companies, but it has been my experience dealing with these companies on several occasions that they were more than fair with me. The only reason that I could find to bring about a lawsuit would have been if I wanted to get greedy.

By the way, when a person does sue an insurance company, the money has to come from somewhere – like from premiums collected from customers like you and me.

I believe the decisions we make on this, as well as other areas of life, should be from a heart of love towards our fellow man. One of which Jesus called the second greatest commandment tells us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. You don’t show that you love someone if you sue them just because you can.

The scriptures also remind us in the Golden Rule that we should treat others like we would desire to be treated. If we addressed every situation with this attitude our world would be a much better place.
