Focus on the priority of Christmas

Whether we are ready for it or not, the Christmas season is upon us.

There is something horribly wrong with that statement because Christmas should be a joy and a much-anticipated event. We somehow have been sucked into the commercialistic and materialistic side of Christmas to the point that, for some, it is dreaded and fills them with stress and financial burdens.

In the book of Luke’s telling of the first Christmas, we are told how the shepherds heard of the birth of the Christ child and made it a priority to go and worship him. Our priorities seem to be confused these days to the point where we are so wrapped up in the secular things that we are too tired and stressed to take part in the spiritual things. Some take the time out of duty or guilt, but their hearts are far away. They are robbed from enjoying the moment.

The great thing about living in a free society and being born with a free will is we get to choose how to approach Christmas. We do have the freedom to say yes or no to decisions that are made during this season.

We can choose to make Christ the priority this year.
