Finding the right eternal life
pastor corner

As I was scanning across some headlines on the Internet I noticed a phrase that caught my attention. The writer said, "While nobody has cracked the code to eternal life, a small but growing number of Americans may have uncovered a way to avoid cutting a big tax check to Uncle Sam."

Of course, what stuck out to me was the part dealing with eternal life. The fact of the matter is, there are many who don’t believe that eternal life is possible while others think it is some mystery that has yet to be discovered. Then there are those, when they do speak of eternal life, who only refer to life before physical death; they don’t believe in an afterlife.

There is only one reliable truth source that unlocks the mystery in anyone’s mind; the Bible. In this great book, it is very clear that eternal life is not just a myth but a reality. It is available to everyone under one condition. Jesus makes it very plain that the way to obtain it comes only by accepting Him, making a choice to be one of his disciples.

The following verses are just samples of this truth. John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:36: "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them."

John 17:3: "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

There is additional good news. We can know that we can possess it. We can know that even though we will all die physically we will live forever in the afterlife.

1 John 5:13 plainly reveals this to us: "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."

We are assured that no one can ever take it from us. We can have a sense of security through faith and obedience that we can and will live forever. We see this in John 10:28-30: "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one."

We are not guaranteed how long we will live here on this Earth but we can look forward to living in a place called heaven for eternity. If you don’t have this assurance, then seek and you will find.
