Christian Chapman is hailed as an amazing evangelist and travels extensively to spread the gospel.
Despite his busy schedule, the Charlotte, N.C., native is coming to Liberty County on Wednesday for a community-wide event sponsored by First Presbyterian Christian Academy.
“I am delighted and excited he will be with us to share the good news of the gospel,” said Kathi Parchem, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hinesville.
Chapman is known as a NASCAR chaplain and a Spike TV reality TV personality. He competed in the world’s most dangerous race, the Baja 1000, and was a pro baseball player overseas. He now serves with Kingdom Building Ministries as an evangelist.
Chapman is a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University. While playing college baseball, he played with the Athletes in Action. As a missionary with that group, he worked with South African nationals to develop an Olympic-grade team.
Additionally, he has competed nationally in a professional golf longest-drive competition, raced motocross and has taken part in a racing-themed reality series on Spike TV.
Chapman’s experiences in the ministry and in sports have led to many international ministry opportunities where he has conducted Bible studies for NASCAR teams and motocross racers. Chapman also has served as a chaplain to football teams and as a pastor to collegians at Clemson University.
“Chapman is involved in kingdom building and brings young people to Christ. During the time our school was involved in the Under Armour Finding Undeniable nationwide competition, we contacted Chapman, and he encouraged our children to seek the Lord. He also told them (that) whether the school won or lost, it was a good competition,” FPCA Director of Public Relations Maria Reed said.
“We placed in the top three in the competition and won the award for the school with the most drive. Chapman was moved by the spirit the school has, and we asked him to come and bring the Word of God to the community,” she said.
The main worship service is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the St. James community gymnasium in Midway. This event is geared toward youth, but people of all ages are welcome to attend the free service.
Additionally, FPCA is inviting area ministers to join them for breakfast to meet Chapman at 8 a.m. Monday in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church.
