Best life is one helping others

Many people believe that being a Christian is a life that is dull and unfulfilling. Instead of looking to the Lord, they spend their time doing activities that the world says comprise the great life.
The problem is that most find something missing when it’s all said and done. They feel empty and alone. The reason is that everything the world has to offer is only for a time and does not last forever.
John put it this way: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever” (1 John 2:15-17). This kind of lifestyle can lead to heartache and pain for the individual. Some find themselves caught up in alcohol or drug addiction, which was never their intention. Others find that they only have fair-weather friends, and when the good times are gone, so are their friends.
This is much like the account of the prodigal son in Luke 15. He received his inheritance and wasted it on riotous living. Finding himself without funds or friends, he turned to feeding hogs and “would have filled his belly with the husks the swine did eat, and no man gave to him” (Luke 15:16). This Biblical example plays out in life more often than not. People who seemingly “had it all” wake up and find they are alone and troubled with no one to turn to. All their money and friends are gone, and they see no way out.
Sadly, some end their lives. Newspaper headlines too often tell of a life that is gone; the entertainment industry has seen many a “star” take his or her life because they felt they had nowhere to turn.
The truth of this matter is that being a Christian is not a life that is dull or unfulfilling. It is a life that answers the questions man has about his very being. In this life, there is the awareness that there is a supreme being who cares for all men when it seems that no man cares at all. The Christian life gives the satisfaction of knowing there is work to do to help people physically and spiritually.
When a Christian heeds the words of Paul and does good things for others (both Christian and non-Christian - Galatians 6:10), there is a sense of fulfillment and joy that those in the world cannot imagine. In a world where the mindset is every man for his own, the Christian cares for and seeks to comfort others and looks for ways to help. The Christian knows the excitement of helping those who are lost to find the truth of God’s word and the joy of seeing them obey the gospel. This abundant life of the Christian makes the journey of life worthwhile, because it is based on the hope of a life in heaven for eternity.
Christ is the only way to heaven. Obedience to the gospel and living faithfully to God is the best life. Take the time to read and study God’s word for yourself. Man has a lot of ideas, but God has the only true way.
