In a few days we will celebrate Christmas. After Thanksgiving, it seems like the days fly by and before you know it, the big day is here.
We spend endless hours preparing for Christmas. Our days are filled with shopping, decorating, planning menus, attending one party after another and worrying about how much money is being spent.
We become frustrated when trying to buy suitable gifts at reasonable prices. Merchants lure shoppers with 50 percent off sales and even buy two, get one free bargains. There are all kinds of enticements to get shoppers into stores and convince them to drop a few more dollars. Malls extend their hours of operation to give customers more time to shop and spend. 
But even with all the hustle and bustle, we must never forget God’s gift. His gift is the reason for this season of giving and cheer. Unlike the buy two, get one free deals, this gift really is free.
We often miss the true meaning of Christmas and the real reason for the season. We allow the stress of a commercialized holiday and the secularization of Christmas to cause us to miss the most important moments.
More than 2,000 years ago, the best gift mankind has ever received was born on Christmas. Born to the Virgin Mary, this gift did not come with any fanfare.
