Be thankful to God, bless his name

We hear the expression “God Bless America” or “God bless you” often and that’s good but it’s time for America and us, as a nation, to bless God.

We just celebrated Thanksgiving, which is a time of feasting, sharing and family. If America would bless God and give him due honor, recognition and praise, God would in turn bless America. God would then be obligated to bless America, according to Galatians 6:7, which says, “Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

The bottom line is, if we teach our children to be moral and do what’s right, we’ll have success. We, as a people, want the blessings of God, but we don’t want to do what God says, nor do we want to take time to bless him or honor him.

The moral of what I just said is, every day ought to be a day of thanksgiving and blessing the Lord.

First Chronicles 16:34 teaches and admonishes us to give thanks to the Lord. Why should we give thanks to the Lord? Well, that same Scripture reminds us that he is good and his mercy endures forever.

During this holiday season, many choose to reflect on negative things rather than the positive. This season is a time of reflection and of gratefulness. If we were to take inventory of our lives in reference to God’s goodness and be honest, we would be amazed at how good God has been to us throughout the year.

First Thessalonians 5:18 teaches us, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

In fact, we owe God so much because he keeps blessing us over and over. The Lord is continually blessing. All he asks in return is that we make known his deeds and tell of his goodness. Psalm 103:2 tells us, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

God’s blessings are upon us so much that we should thank him and bless him continually. We teach our children to say thanks when we ourselves sometimes don’t say thanks.

Every day is a day of thanksgiving, so let’s be positive and grateful and remember to take the time to thank God. God is not like man. He blesses us even when we are not deserving.

Psalm 68:19 provides us with reasons why we should be thankful and bless his name. It says, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.”  Because of who he is, the Lord is truly worthy to be honored, worshiped and praised.
