The Richmond Hill Library is launching a new program opportunity for the residents of Richmond Hill.

"KNITTING & CROCHETING FOR A GOOD CAUSE"

Come and join us to make blankets for "Project Linus" and "Warm Up America".

Project Linus began in 1995 and volunteers all around the country make blankets for children at local Cancer Care Centers.

The name is taken from the Peanuts Character who is never without a blanket of his own.

Warm Up America is all about neighbors helping neighbors.

Afghans are made for distribution to the following places: Women’s shelters, Nursing homes, Hospitals and hospices, churches, AIDS facilities, community service agencies and a variety of national non-profit agencies.

All Skill levels are welcome. We are hoping to team up those with experience with beginners to share their knowledge and skills.

Anyone interested, please stop by the library to sign up.

Yarn and Needle Donations are always appreciated.

From Assistant Manger Maike George:

"As the Summer Reading Program comes to an end it is time to gear up for some new exciting events at the Richmond Hill Library.

"It has been a wonderful summer and we loved having so many children come to read and explore the world of books.

"To meet the needs of the children and keep them reading we are launching a new program called 'Book Detective'.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.
