Kirkland to discuss life and times of civil war soldiers
Richmond Hill Historical Society meeting set for March 1

On March 1 at 7 p.m. the Richmond Hill Historical Society will present Tally Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland will be discussing the Life and Times of the Civil War Soldier.

Prior to retiring from the National Park Service he was the director at Fort Pulaski. Mr. Kirkland is now spending time at Fort McAllister and is an expert on the Civil War Era.

All are invited to learn about the rich history that abounds in the area.

The meeting will be held at the Wetlands Center at Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. Please call the Richmond Hill Historical Society Museum at (912)756-3697 for directions or more information.

The meetings are open to the public and there is no admission charge.

 

HAAF Spouses Club

Join the Hunter Spouses’ Club for a St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon and hear guest speaker Sonny Dixon from WTOC. The fun starts at 11 a.m. March 13 at the Hunter Club.

North Bryan Cancer Support Group meets the first and third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. at the Pembroke City Hall in the community center.

Antiques show

The Skidaway Island Antiques Show and sale is March 2-4 and will include 17 nationally known dealers, Appraisals, gourmet luncheons each day, $8 admission for all three days. All net proceeds go to charities benefiting area children.

The event will be at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 3 West Ridge Road, Savannah from 10-a.m.-5 p.m. on March 2-3 and 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on March 4.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.

Fall art show, reception planned for Nov. 8
Arts on the Coast will have its fall art show and reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the grounds surrounding Leahy Art Gallery in Richmond Hill.
