Sept. 4
The Richmond Hill Historical Society will have a tour of the historic Bryan Neck Presbyterian Church, cemetery, manse and grounds, with an overview of the history by local author and historian Buddy Sullivan, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at 7196 Belfast Keller Road. Tour is free for Richmond Hill Historical Society members. A $5 donation is requested from non-members. Go to www.richmondhillhistoricalsoceity.com.

The Pembroke Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, in Pembroke City Hall.

Sept. 6
Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association will present its annual Coastal Georgia “Vets Helping Vets” Poker Run on Sat, Sept. 6. Registration is from 9-11 a.m. First bike out at 10 a.m., last bike out at 11 a.m. Run starts at Savannah Harley-Davidson and ends at Flashback in Richmond Hill. Entry fee is $15 per bike and $5 for additional hand or rider. All proceeds will go to Active Heroes and Amputee Outdoors.

Sept. 9
The Bryan-Evans Retired Educators Association will its first meeting/brunch social of the year at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 in the social hall of Pembroke United Methodist Church in Pembroke. Sept. 8
The Friends of the Richmond Hill Library will hold its first fall meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in the large conference room of the library. Dues are $15 per year for individuals and $25 for families.

Sept. 11
The Bryan County Emergency Services and the Richmond Hill Fire Department will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Bryan County Firefighter Memorial behind the County Administration Building on  Capt. Matthew Freeman Drive.

Sept. 13
The Richmond Hill Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the 2014-15 year at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the John W. Stevens Wetlands Center in J. F. Gregory Park. Go to the group’s Facebook page for more information.

The weapons demonstration “Incoming” with Shuman’s Artillery will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Fort McAllister State Historic Park, 3894 Fort McAllister Road in Richmond Hill. Cost is $7.50 per adult, $6.50 per senior and $4.50 per child. Kids ages 6-younger admitted free. A $5 per-car park pass is required.

Sept 14
The Presbyterian Women of Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church will host a musical and spaghetti dinner event at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Manse on the Bryan Neck campus, 7196 Belfast-Keller Road. Tickets are $10/adult and $2/children 12 and younger, free for children under 6, $25/family. RSVP to 727-2214 and pay at the door.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.
Activities planned include hay rides, hot-dog roasting, face painting, games and prizes. All activities are free and open to the public.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.

Fall art show, reception planned for Nov. 8
Arts on the Coast will have its fall art show and reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the grounds surrounding Leahy Art Gallery in Richmond Hill.
