Shoe rally: The September Birth Month group of Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church will hold a shoe rally at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church in Richmond Hill.
Guest speakers include Minister Josephine Smith of Second Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Minister Cleveland Critton of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Bryan Neck Missionary’s Interim Pastor Henrietta B. Lovett and many more.
Church members and friends can show support by donating amounts equal to their shoe size or more.

Pumpkin Patch
The Richmond Hill Garden Club’s Pumpkin Patch will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 6 in J.F. Gregory Park.
Activities will include face painting, the bean-bag toss, a ring toss, a fish pond and photo opportunities with the Pumpkin Lady. Items featured will include pumpkins, mums, hay bales and corn stalks.

Church yard sale
Faith Harvest Sanctuary will have a yard sale fundraiser at 8 a.m. Oct. 6 at the church on Highway 280 in Lanier.
Space for personal sales may also be rented for $20. Tables will not be provided and reservations are not needed.

Harvest celebration
Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church will hold its 3rd Harvest Day Celebration at 4 p.m. Oct. 7.
The speaker will be Pastor Jerome William Baker or Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah. The theme will be “You Reap What You Sow; Sow a Good Harvest.”

Homecoming
Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church will host its annual homecoming gathering with fall revival at 7:30 nightly Oct. 8-12 at 185 S. Poplar St. in Pembroke. Homecoming Sunday services will be at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 14. An old-fashioned dinner will follow on the church grounds.

Sidewalk sale
Village on the Hill Learning Center will host a sidewalk sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the center on Highway 17 near Harris Trial Road.
All proceeds will benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), a nonprofit advocacy group for neglected and abused children.

Old-Time Barbecue
Ellabell United Methodist Church’s annual Old-Time Barbecue will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 20 at 3113 Highway 204 in Ellabell.
Menu includes: pork, chicken, potato salad, snap beans, stew, bread, extra sauce and tea. The cost of each plate is $7, and cakes, pies, cookies and other home-cooked sweets will be for sale. There also will be a silent auction and yard sale.

Legion meeting
American Legion Post 164 meets at 8 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the post home on Highway 280 about a half mile west of Harvey’s Grocery store. All veterans are invited to attend.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.
Activities planned include hay rides, hot-dog roasting, face painting, games and prizes. All activities are free and open to the public.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.

Fall art show, reception planned for Nov. 8
Arts on the Coast will have its fall art show and reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the grounds surrounding Leahy Art Gallery in Richmond Hill.
