Parents and grandparents are invited to a “College — Getting from Here to There” dinner and seminar on 529 college savings plans at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Richmond Hill City Center in J.F. Gregory Park.

Crabbing tournament
The Offshore Outlaws will host the fourth annual Kids’ Crabbing Tournament on Saturday at Fort McAllister Marina. Registration is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Weigh-in is from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Following the tournament, there will be a crab boil complete with waterslides, music and hermit crab races.

Fun-shoot fundraiser
The inaugural “Shoot to Kill Cancer” sporting-clays fun shoot will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Dorchester Shooting Preserve, 2640 Sunbury Road in Midway.
The event will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk. Registration is $125 per shooter or $500 per team, which includes a golf cart and lunch. Registration deadline is Aug. 30. A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are available. One sponsorship is available for the following areas: golf care ($2,500), gift bag ($2,000) and lunch ($2,000).

Veterans flag applications
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164 of Pembroke is taking applications for fallen veterans to be honored in the downtown “flag garden.”
Applications are also being accepted to honor living veterans. The application cutoff is Sunday and this is the last year applications will be accepted. The flags will be dedicated during the unit’s annual Veterans Day program, set for 11 a.m. Nov. 9 in Pembroke.

9/11 survivor talk
9/11 World Trade Center survivor Sujo John will be the guest speaker at 9 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill.
John was on the 81st floor of Tower I when the first airplane exploded into flames just above his office. His wife who was expecting a child worked in Tower II. He will recount the details of the incredible events he witnessed during his narrow escape from death.
