Photo contest: PawParazzi is holding a dog Halloween-costume photo contest this month at 11408 Ford Ave.
Participants can dress their dogs in costumes and have their pets’ pictures taken in the store for entry in the contest. Pictures will be taken through Wednesday, with in-store voting being held Thursday-Tuesday. The winner will be announced Oct. 31.
The winning entry will receive a $50 gift basket, $10 off an in-store purchase excluding food and treats and $5 off a grooming package.

Yarn donations
Common Threads, a needle-work group at the Richmond Hill Public Library, is seeking donations of yarn.
Common Threads knit and crochet adult chemo hats, Afghan blankets and lap throws and nursery and children’s hats for local hospitals.
Some items are also available for free at the library. The group is in need of yarn to continue these projects.
Donations can be dropped off at the Richmond Hill Public Library on Ford Avenue anytime during regular business hours.

Broom sale
The Richmond Hill Lions Club will have a broom sale fundraiser from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday outside Kroger’s on Ford Avenue. Rain date will be Nov. 3.
The proceeds from the broom sale will go to help with vision needs, sending a child to the Camp for the Blind in Waycross, sponsoring the Richmond Hill Star Student and other projects.

Study group
Anyone interested in studying and discussing America’s founding principles, with a focus on the Constitution, should consider joining the Get a Life Society. No credentials are needed except a love of history and a sense of humor.

Thrift store
St. Elizabeth’s Attic and Thrift Store at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Richmond Hill has Halloween items and fall and winter clothing available.
The store, at 1649 Highway 144, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. For more information, call 727-2664.

Veterans celebration
Lanier Primary School will hold a special veterans program and celebration at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the school on Highway 280. All veterans are invited to attend as special guests.
The gifted enrichment students will be presenting the annual veterans celebration to honor all veterans and currently enlisted members of the U.S. Armed Forces. This program will feature tributes to American veterans and service members. Each veteran in attendance will receive recognition.
