Onion sale
The American Legion Post of Pembroke is holding its annual Vidalia jumbo onion sale now through mid-May.  
The 10-pound bags are $8 and the 25-pound bags are $15. Delivery will be available mid- to late-May.  
The proceeds from the sale aid local veterans and the Boy Scout and Girl Scout Brownie troops that use the post for their meetings at no charge.

Memorial Day ceremonies

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164 in Pembroke will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 24 in the downtown square by the railroad car.
The ceremony will include the dedication of flags honoring all branches of the military.
The annual Richmond Hill Memorial Day ceremony will be at 11 a.m. May 26 at J.F. Gregory Park.
The event will include speakers, a color guard, a 21-gun salute and the laying of the wreath. For more information, call 912-756-3345.

Fort Morris event
Fort Morris State Historic Site will host its annual Memorial Day commemoration from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday. Fort Morris is 7 miles east of I-95, off exit 76, in Sunbury. Admission is $3-$4.50.
The Friends of Fort Morris Cannon Crew will present cannon demonstrations, musket drills and soldier talks on the hour.  Families are invited to bring a picnic lunch for the afternoon.

Libraries closed
The Bryan County public libraries in Pembroke and Richmond Hill will be closed Monday in honor of Memorial Day. They will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Davis family reunion

The James and Elizabeth Davis family reunion will be at noon June 7 at the Bryan Lodge 303 F&AM Masonic Hall, 33 Bass St. in Richmond Hill.
Attendees should bring a dish to share. Door prizes will be given away. For more information, call 912-658-7047 or 912-756-3461.

Kids Fishing Derby

The Richmond Hill Exchange Club will host its 24th annual Kids Fishing Derby from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 7 at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery on Highway 144, between the library and Kroger.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The derby is free and open to children ages 15 and under and accompanied by a parents or adult guardian.
The derby will be at Fish Hatchery ponds that have been stocked with catfish. Participants should bring fishing poles equipped and ready to fish, as well as bait, although a limited amount of bait and fishing poles will be available for use free of charge. Hotdogs and Coke products will also be available at no charge for participants, courtesy of Roger Wood Meats and the Savannah Coca Cola Bottling Company.
Trophies for children 12 and under will be presented for several categories. All children will also be eligible for door prizes to be given away during the derby. Award presentations will follow the derby at noon.
