The Bryan County Bark Park will hold its monthly bring-your-own-dog “Yappy Hour” fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fish Tales Restaurant at Fort McAllister Marina in South Bryan.
The event will feature the usual Yappy Hour socialization of owners and their dogs with beer at $1 a cup to dog lovers — dogs can drink Bowser beer or opt to drink plenty of the fresh water provided.
Entry is free and well-behaved dogs are encouraged to attend. Fun Bryan cocktails will be offered with non-alcoholic versions available. Proceeds go to the Bryan County Bark Park nonprofit organization.

Asperger support

The Richmond Hill Asperger Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Richmond Hill Public Library, 9607 Ford Ave. For more information, email RHAspergerGroup@aol.com.

Church yard sale

New Beginnings Community Church will have a fundraising yard sale from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at 75 Crosswinds Drive (North Buckhead entrance).
Proceeds will support the church’s youth retreat. Donations toward the sale may be brought to the church through May 15. Call ahead at 912-445-0196.

Democrats meeting

The Bryan County Democrats will hold their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Pembroke Public Library, 1018 Camellia Drive.

Onion sale

The American Legion Post of Pembroke is holding its annual Vidalia jumbo onion sale now through mid-May.  
The 10-pound bags are $8 and the 25-pound bags are $15. Delivery will be available mid- to late-May.  
The proceeds from the sale aid local veterans and the Boy Scout and Girl Scout Brownie troops that use the post for their meetings at no charge.

Memorial Day ceremonies
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164 in Pembroke will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 24 in the downtown square by the railroad car.
The ceremony will include the dedication of flags honoring veterans from the Pembroke area. Jim Carroll, a Vietnam veteran, will be the keynote speaker.
The annual Richmond Hill Memorial Day ceremony will be at 11 a.m. May 26 at J.F. Gregory Park.
The event will include speakers, a color guard, a 21-gun salute and the laying of the wreath. For more information, call 912-756-3345.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.
Activities planned include hay rides, hot-dog roasting, face painting, games and prizes. All activities are free and open to the public.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.

Fall art show, reception planned for Nov. 8
Arts on the Coast will have its fall art show and reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the grounds surrounding Leahy Art Gallery in Richmond Hill.
