American Legion Post 164 in Pembroke is selling jumbo Vidalia onions for devilery in mid April to early May. Ten pounds bags are $8 and 25 pounds bags are $15. These are genuine Vidalia onions from Ray Farms in Glennville. Call B.J. Clark at 653-4958 or  Ernie Mitchell at 653-7970 to order. Revenue is used to support the local post, veterans and related activities.

Richmond Hill Garden Club

The Richmond Hill Garden Club’s next meeting is at 10 a.m. today at the Wetlands Center in J.F. Gregory Park. Terry Molonari will speak about personal safety.

Library Board to meet
The Bryan County Library Board will meet at 5 p.m. today at the Pembroke Public Library. The meeting is open to the public.

Planning commission
The Richmond Hill City Council and Richmond Hill Planning Commission will hold a workshop  at  6 p.m. tonight in the city council chambers to discuss a proposed Family Dollar development on the corner of Mulberry Drive and Highway 17 and proposed freestanding signage at the old Kroger site. The public is invited.

Band night at RHMS

Richmond Hill Middle School will host a band night March 19 for all fifth-grade students who are interested in joining band.
Students and parents are invited to drop-in from 6-8 p.m. to learn more about the band and hear the RHMS and Richmond Hill High School bands perform.
Representatives from local music stores will also be on hand to give all fifth-grade students a chance to try out as many instruments as they would like.

Asperger Support Group

Kangeter Family reunion

The Kangeter family reunion will be held March 24 at the W.W. Mann Center in Brooklet. Friends and family of the late Henry and Susanna Kangeter are invited to attend. Music and games begin at 2 p.m., a covered dish meal starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Melinda at 663-6574.

See Spot Run 5K

The 7th annual See Spot Run 5K run/walk is March 24 at J.F. Gregory Park. The event is Bryan Animal Caregivers largest fundraiser and funds the low-cost spay and neuter program, which has helped sterlize over 7,000 domestic and feral animals in Bryan County since 2003. Bring dogs on leash with proof of current rabies vaccination. Runners and walkers without dogs also welcome. There will be awards and a raffle. Sheep to shawl festival
The Sheep to Shawl Festival will be held at Oatland Island Wildlife Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 24.  This favorite springtime festival features the shearing of Oatland’s sheep and demonstrations by the Fiber Guild of the Savannahs.  For more information call (912) 395-1500 or visit  www.oatlandisland.org for a complete schedule of activities.

Free skin cancer spot check
The Georgia Skin and Cancer Clinic will host a free skin spot check at its Richmond Hill location from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 24.
Dr. Sidney Smith will donate $5 per person that has an exam to the Freeman Project, SMA Angels or Forever 4 Change (Sydney Sanders Foundation). Spot check recipients will choose the charity. Support high school soccer
32 Degrees Yogurt is hosting a fundraiser for the Richmond Hill High School soccer program from 4 to 9 p.m. March 29. Varsity boys and girls players will be on hand to help serve and work for tips. 32 Degrees Yogurt also will donate a percentage of  all sales to the boys and girls soccer teams. PCC fundraiser March 31
Pembroke Christian Church will host its annual Pork Steak Dinner on March 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinners are $7 each. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call the church office at 653-2457. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until noon.

Fundraiser for RHMS
Richmond Hill Middle School will be selling chicken dinners on March 31 to benefit the school’s athletic programs. Dinners consist of half a grilled chicken, green beans, potato or pasta salad, tea and a roll. The cost is $10 per dinner. Cheerleaders also will be selling baked goods during the event.

Free trash day at landfill

There will be a free trash day April 7 at the Mill Creek Landfill in Ellabell from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All bulk items and yard waste will be accepted at no charge. Automobile tires will be accepted, but are limited to four per person.
Household garbage, wet paint, chemicals, oil and tractor and semi truck tires are not accepted.

Volunteers needed
The Bryan County Senior Centers are in need of volunteers to deliver meals to homebound clients from 10 a.m. to noon Monday-Friday in the Richmond Hill and Pembroke areas.

American Legion Post 164

American Legion Post 164 meets the second Tuesday of Each Month at 8 p.m. at the Post home, located on Highway 280 about a half mile west of Harvey’s Grocery store. All veterans are invited to attend.
