The Friends of the Richmond Hill Library will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the conference room of the library.
The topic will be the spring book and yard sale set for 8 a.m.-1 p.m. April 5. The public is invited to attend the meeting.
Donations of all types of gently-used books are needed, especially children’s books and nonfiction. Yard sale items also are needed. A trailer will be available in the library parking lot in mid-March for drop-offs.
Items that will not be accepted include clothes, shoes, electronics or large appliances. Books can be left inside the library at any time during hours of operation. 

Educators meeting
The Bryan-Evans Retired Educators Association will have its last meeting of the 2013-14 year at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mrs. Rogers Restaurant in Claxton.
The program will be the scholarship recipient and the installation of officers.

Garden club meeting
The March meeting of the Richmond Hill Garden Club will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the John W. Stevens Wetlands Education Center in J.F. Gregory Park. The speaker will be Diana Churchill, local birding expert and author of “Birder’s Eye View.” The public is invited.

Rifles presentation
“Assault Rifles of the Civil War” will be presented at 11 a.m. March 15 at Fort McAllister State Historic Park.
Rangers will be at the fort to demonstrate with a display of Civil War “assault rifles” to help explain and elaborate on the uses of these weapons.
Admission is $7.50 per adult, $4.50 per child age 5-older and $6.50 per senior. Children 5-younger are admitted free. For more information, call 912–727–2339.

Asperger support
‘The Richmond Hill Asperger support group will meet at 7 p.m. March 18 in the Richmond Hill Public Library. The guest speakers will talk about the benefits of therapeutic yoga for children and adults with special needs.  For more information, email RHAspergerGroup@aol.com.

Scout fundraiser
Boy Scout Troop 527 will have its annual barbecue fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. May 3 at Richmond Hill United Methodist Church.
Meals will include half a barbecued chicken, potato salad, green beans, a roll and tea for $9. Tickets need to be purchased in advance, and Scouts will be going door to door in South Bryan neighborhoods.
The fundraiser will help send Scouts to summer camp in July at the Blue Ridge Reservation in Virginia and possibly the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.
Activities planned include hay rides, hot-dog roasting, face painting, games and prizes. All activities are free and open to the public.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.

Fall art show, reception planned for Nov. 8
Arts on the Coast will have its fall art show and reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the grounds surrounding Leahy Art Gallery in Richmond Hill.
