The city of Pembroke will dedicate Sgt. Robert W. Crapse Drive at 9 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Public Safety Way and Judge John R. Harvey Drive. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

Re-enactment festival
The Burning of Darien Civil War Commemorative Re-enactment Festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Waterfront Park in downtown Darien.
On June 11, 1863, the city of Darien was burned by Union forces. The festival marks a 150th commemoration of that tragic event. Re-enactors will be present for cannon firings living history demonstrations. Boat tours, with historical talks by historian Buddy Sullivan, will be available.
The festival is free, though there is a charge for boat tours.

Vacation Bible school
Beulah Baptist Church in Pembroke will be hosting vacation Bible school from 6-8:30 p.m. June 17-21.
The theme is “Facing Fear, Trusting God,” and classes are for children in pre-K through grade 6. Supper will be provided.

Junior Ranger Camp

Fort McAllister’s Junior Ranger Camps are set for June 24-28 and July 15-19 at 3894 Fort McAllister Road south of Richmond Hill.
Attendees will learn skills from Civil War soldier training to outdoor survival ethics. They also will explore the park’s marsh ecosystem and end the week with a canoe trip down Redbird Creek to Shark Tooth Sandbar.  
Times are 9 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. Participants need to bring their own lunches. The cost is $90 per camper.

Pre-K vacancies
Bryan County Head Start/Pre-K, a federally funded program for preschool children from low-income families, has vacancies to fill before classes start Aug. 9.
Children participate in a variety of educational activities designed to improve school readiness. They also receive free medical and dental care, have healthy meals and snacks and enjoy quality play indoors and outdoors in a safe setting.
Bryan County Head Start/Pre-K is at 166 Bacontown Road in Pembroke. School hours for the pre-K class is 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and for the 3-year-olds class is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
