Hurricane briefing
The Bryan County Emergency Management Agency will be conducting hurricane awareness briefings for the 2010 Hurricane Season.
The first briefing will be conducted in North Bryan on July 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bryan County EMS Headquarters, 2995 Hwy. 204, Ellabell. A second briefing will be held in South Bryan on July 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bryan County Administrative Complex on Capt. Matthew Freeman Drive. The public is encouraged to attend.

VBS
Pembroke Christian Church, 116 West Bacon St., will hold its vacation Bible school July 11-15, from 6-8:30 each night. This year’s theme is “SonQuest Rain Forest.” Dinner will be provided each night. All ages are invited. For more information, please call (912) 653-2457.

Church anniversary
Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church invites everyone to celebrate its 141st anniversary beginning July 8 at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Stanford L. Anderson I and Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Richmond Hill. On Friday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. the church celebrates with Pastor Berry Staley and Fairmount Missionary Baptist Church of Savannah.  On Sunday the celebration continues with Pastor Floyd Hartford and Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Richmond Hill.

Art classes
The city Of Pembroke is holding beginning art classes on Thursdays, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center. Carolyn Morgan is teaching the class. The cost is $15 for a six-week session.

Mobile Food Pantry

Due to constraints, there will not be any scheduled Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantries at the Gospel Truth Bible Clinic in Ellabell or any other site, until early fall with the exception of case-by-case availability.

Thrift store

St. Elizabeth’s Attic--Thrift and Gift Store is now open and has jewelry, appliances, clothes, furniture, books, children’s toys and games. It is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon.
All proceeds are donated to local charities. The store is located at 16491 Hwy. 144 in Richmond Hill, phone 727-2664.

Meet and greet

The Bryan County Republican Party is hosting a candidate meet and greet is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at the Black Creek Country Club in Black Creek.
All local candidates for county board of commissioners and board of education races have been invited, and representatives for state candidates may be in attendance as well.
Food and beverages will be provided, and a cash bar will be available.

Flag football

Upward Flag Football K5-12th grade boys and girls upward cheerleading for K5-sixth grade girls. Early Registration cost is $75 and the deadline is July 4, cost after July 4 is $100. Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church, on Hwy. 144 near Publix, is asking parents of childen in kindergarten-fifth grade to complete an online survey. The church wants to hear what you think the community needs.

Art show
Bryan County artists are now being featured at the new Bryan County Administrative Complex. The show is in the main lobby and is accessible to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show will run through September.

Bible school

Richmond Hill United Methodist Church will set sail for the high seas during the its annual vacation Bible school set for 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 12-16 at RHUMC, 9050 Ford Ave.
Richmond Hill United Methodist Church's vacation Bible school is free to any  entering pre-school child through entering fifth-graders.

Northside VBS
Northside Baptist Church, located on W.E. Smith Road in Pembroke, will have vacation Bible school July 12-16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “Soul Survivors on Danger Island.” All ages are invited to come and join in the fun and learning of God’s Word.

First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill will hold a handyman workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 24. The workshop is sponsored by the church military committee and is open to the public.

Council to meet
The Richmond Hill City Council will hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at city hall.
The council will consider several planning and zoning requests, as well as the second reading of the proposed tree ordinance and more.
