The Richmond Hill Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Monday has been canceled for the holidays.
The commission’s next meeting is set for Jan. 10.

Meeting moved
The Bryan County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting slated for Tuesday has been postponed. The meeting will instead be at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the county courthouse in Pembroke.

Open auditions
Richmond Hill Community Theatre is seeking five men and three women for its coming Murder/Mystery Dinner production.
Open auditions will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Richmond Hill Public Library and from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 11 at What’s the Scoop Café in Richmond Hill.

Free class
The Bryan County Health Department will host a free breastfeeding class at 10 a.m. Jan. 11 at the Richmond Hill clinic in the Bryan County Administrative Complex at 66 Capt. Matthew Freeman Drive.
The class is open to parents, parents-to-be and grandparents and will be by an international board certified lactation consultant.
Those attending can be assigned to a breastfeeding peer counselor to follow them through their breastfeeding period.

Support group

The Sarcoidosis Support Group will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 12 in the East Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro.
Learn to cope with this medical mystery and get current information from physicians, natural foods and other health care professionals. Speak with those who have coped with sarcoidosis for many years.

Aid night

The Richmond Hill High School Guidance Department will host a financial aid night at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, in the school cafeteria.
Carol Lott from the Georgia Student Finance Commission will be present to give updated financial aid information and answer questions.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.
Activities planned include hay rides, hot-dog roasting, face painting, games and prizes. All activities are free and open to the public.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.

Fall art show, reception planned for Nov. 8
Arts on the Coast will have its fall art show and reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the grounds surrounding Leahy Art Gallery in Richmond Hill.
