Free tax preparation is now available, courtesy of the Chatham Savannah Asset Development Coalition’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Earned Income Tax Credit Program.
The program is available to taxpayers earning less than $52,000 in 2010.
In Bryan County, tax preparation sites include Pembroke Public Library at 1018 Camellia Drive in Pembroke, and Richmond Hill Public Library at 9607 Ford Ave. in Richmond Hill.

Food pantry
The Mobile Food Pantry will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gospel Truth Bible Clinic at 362 Wade Carter Road in Ellabell.
Free food will be available for low-income, elderly, disabled or unemployed residents, and others at risk.

War program

Fort Morris State Historic Site will host “Sunbury and the War Between the States” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 29.
The 8th Georgia Infantry as well as the 25th Georgia Altamaha Scouts will be present to demonstrate and interpret the life of a Civil War soldier at Sunbury. There will also be various demonstrations, including musket and cannon firing, drills and soldier talks. The cost is $2.75 to $4.

Church youth

Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church youth will hold a fundraiser Feb. 4-5.
Boston butts, pulled pork and sandwich plates will be available, but there will only be a limited number of walk-in orders on hand.

Volunteers needed
Make a big difference in the lives of others by volunteering for THA Group Island Hospice, a nonprofit Hospice care provider. 
There are opportunities in Georgia and South Carolina for those interested in providing office support, computer work, patient and/or family support, special events or fundraising activities. All necessary training is provided.

Valentine’s dinner
A delicious Valentine’s Day dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Pembroke Christian Church fellowship hall.
The cost is $6 per plate and the funds will be used for the church’s building fund. All are welcome.

Planning meeting

The Pembroke Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at city hall at 160 North Main St.
All interested parties are invited to attend. Persons with disabilities who are planning to attend should call 653-4413 if assistance is required.

Prom dress drive
There will be a prom dress drive and evening gown collection from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 5 at the Richmond Hill Public Library.
All gently used prom dresses and evening gowns, as well as any gently used teen clothes, will be donated to Teen Line thrift store in Pembroke.

Super Museum
The Richmond Hill Museum is participating in Super Museum Sunday on Feb. 6, when participating museums in Georgia are opening their doors to the public from noon to 4 p.m. in celebration of the beginning of Georgia Month.
Noted historian Buddy Sullivan will be speaking at the Richmond Hill Museum at 2 p.m. that Sunday. Sullivan will present a program on the History of Coastal Georgia. His presentation is open to the public.
Docents will be on hand to answer questions and give tours of the museum.
