The Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Georgia Southern University will have a Chick-n-que on Friday.
The chicken barbecue will benefit the ministry’s summer missionaries. Plates are $6 and include chicken quarter, two sides, bread and tea.
Deliveries will also be made to Pembroke Christian Church for those not wanting to travel to Statesboro.

Beekeeping
The Coastal Empire Beekeepers Association will hold a day-long workshop, “The FUNdamentals of Beekeeping” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah.

Outreach program

The Dolphin Project’s Education Outreach Program is available to speak at schools, clubs or organizations.
The program offers a fascinating presentation with sound and video about estuarine dolphins and their environment. There are age-appropriate programs and related handouts.
TDP is an all-volunteer, nonprofit research and education organization that has been dedicated to the protection of wild estuarine bottlenose dolphins and their environment for more than 22 years.

Tax help
Free tax preparation is now available, courtesy of the Chatham Savannah Asset Development Coalition’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Earned Income Tax Credit Program.
The program is available to taxpayers earning less than $52,000 in 2010.
In Bryan County, tax preparation sites include Pembroke Public Library at 1018 Camellia Drive in Pembroke, and Richmond Hill Public Library at 9607 Ford Ave. in Richmond Hill.

Garage sale

The Sterling Creek subdivision in Richmond Hill will have a Neighborhood Watch garage sale fundraiser at 7 a.m. on March 5.
Homes that participate are asked to contribute a $10 donation, which will help support improvements and/or projects around the neighborhood, such as Neighborhood Watch signs, landscaping improvements and more.

Church revival

Abundant Life Church of God will have a revival with Evangelist Brian Boutwell of Thomasville from March 6-9 at the church at 119 Wildwood Church Road in Pembroke.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Everyone is invited to come and experience salvation, the miracles of deliverance and healing, signs and wonders through anointed singing and Preaching of the word of God.

Support group
The Alzheimer’s Association is happy to announce the development of a new support group in Effingham County at 6:30 p.m. March 8 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 155 Goshen Road in Rincon.
Alzheimer’s Association Program Director Jenny House will speak about Alzheimer’s and facilitator and Chaplain Martha Love will discuss the direction of this new group.  Copies of the “36-Hour Day” book will be given away free of charge for attendees.    
This is a support/discussion/educational meeting for family members of those with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders. This support group is free to the public and is nondenominational.

Scottish party
Celebrate Scottish Heritage Month with a Scottish Street Party from 6 to 9 p.m. March 12 in front of Waterfront Wine and Gourmet Shop at 107 Broad St. in Darien.
The festive evening will include Scottish music, ale, food and culture on the beautiful Darien waterfront. Scottish-rock fusion band Uncle Hamish and the Hooligans will be performing their unique blend of music. A free ale tasting will be included in the ticket price. Fabulous prizes donated by local merchants will be raffled off to lucky winners. 
The cost is $10 per person, and children 12 and under are free. Guests are encouraged to bring your own chair, and cooler will not be permitted.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.
