Volunteers needed
The Fort McAllister Sport Fishing Club is looking for inshore and offshore captains and boats for its annual Wounded Warrior Fishing Tournament set for Sept. 28 at Fort McAllister Marina. Volunteers may sign up at www.woundedwarriorfishing.com.

Citizen academy

The Bryan Emergency Services is accepting applications to the Citizen Emergency Services Academy.
The eight-week program will meet every Thursday evening from 7-10 p.m. Sept. 5-Oct. 31 at 5995 Highway 204 N. in Ellabell.
Each participant must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of Bryan County and in good physical condition.

College savings workshop

Parents and grandparents are invited to a “College — Getting from Here to There” dinner and seminar on 529 college savings plans at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Richmond Hill City Center in J.F. Gregory Park.
Investments in a 529 plan will fluctuate in value with changes in market conditions and when sold may be worth more or less than the original investment.

Library book sale

The Friends of the Richmond Hill Library are planning a fall book sale set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 and are looking for book donations.
The organization is in need of good used books, especially young children books. There are bins in the Richmond Hill Public Library to drop off donations.
The nonprofit group is in need of nonfiction of all types: history, crafts, sports, gardening, etc.; general fiction in paperback (contemporary and classic); and children’s books.

Fun shoot fundraiser

The inaugural “Shoot to Kill Cancer” sporting-clays fun shoot will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Dorchester Shooting Preserve, 2640 Sunbury Road in Midway.
The event will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk.
Registration is $125 per shooter or $500 per team, which includes a golf cart and lunch. Registration deadline is Aug. 30.
A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are available. One sponsorship is available for the following areas: golf care ($2,500), gift bag ($2,000) and lunch ($2,000).
