Road work

Hwy. 144 and Port Royal Road will undergo daily lane shifts during the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Thursday, March 29. The purpose of the lane changes is to widen the road in this area. Motorists are asked please adhere to the traffic signs within the construction zone.

 

BBQ

Canaan Baptist Church will have its annual BBQ variety dinner at 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.

 

Rep. Kingston

A representative of Congressman Jack Kingston’s office will be in Richmond Hill Thursday, March 22, from 11-a.m.-noon at 10347 Ford Avenue to meet with anyone who needs assistance with a federal agency. Republicans

The Bryan County Republican Party will hold its rescheduled "Picnic in the Park" on Monday, March 19 across the street from Fort McAllister Marina in Richmond Hill. A straw poll will be held to allow attendees to cast votes for their favorite GOP presidential candidate.

Attendees at the event will also hear from invited guests Bryan County Commission Chairman Jimmy Burnsed, Board of Education Chairman Eddie Warren and Richmond Hill Mayor Richard Davis. All three are Republican elected officials.

All those that believe in the principles of the Republican party are invited to attend and to join.

The cost to attend the event is $30 per person or $50 per family and includes food, drinks, and a one year membership to the Bryan County Republican Party.

Pembroke Lions Club

The Pembroke Lions Club will observe "White Cane Day" on April 7 with a bucket brigade set up under the red light. The proceeds from the donations will go toward the Lighthouse for the Blind project.

 

Lions Club meetings

The Pembroke Lions Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Pembroke Library.

 

Vidalia onions

The American Legion Post 164 is having a fundraiser by selling jumbo Vidalia Onions through May 1.

You can purchase a 10 lb. bag of jumbo onions for $7.50 per bag and 25 lb. bags will be sold for $15 per bag.

The onions are provided by Ray Farms of Glennville. To place orders see any member of the Post or call 653-4958 or 653-4948.

All proceeds will be used for Legion projects and to aid veterans and their families.

 

Post 164 meets

The American Legion, Post 164, Pembroke has its regularly stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. the second Thursday each month at the Post home on Highway 280 west in Pembroke. All veterans and current active duty members are encouraged to attend.

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. the same night at the Post home.

 

St. Anne's

The St. Anne Knights of Columbus will have a fish fry at Holy Family Hall behind St Anne Catholic Church on March 30 from 5-7 p.m. All you can eat fried fish and trimmings. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

Additionally, St. Anne’s Catholic Youth Ministry will present "The Living Stations of the Cross", Friday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Family Hall. This will be the groups 8th annual presentation.

The "Stations of the Cross" are a prayerful meditation commemorating the 14 stops along the journey Jesus made from Pilate’s court to Calvary and the tomb. The devotion takes place during the Friday’s of Lent.

The "Living" rendition, presented by the youth group in still life, retains a solemn expression of prayer to help those in attendance be part of the experience.

This event will last approximately one hour to 90 minutes.

 

Calvary Baptist

Pastor Stanford L. Anderson I and the entire Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Family invites everyone to celebrate its 136th church anniversary.

The celebration will begin with Pastor James C. Shipman and the Bolton Street Missionary Baptist Church, Savannah, on Sunday, April 1 at 3 p.m.

The church will continue celebrating April 11 – 13 during nightly services which will begin at 7 p.m. each evening.

The climax to this awesome celebration will take place on Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Ricky Bready, Sr. and Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Savannah, GA.

The church is located off Hwy. 17 South on Danielsiding Loop Road in Richmond Hill, All are invited to join the Calvary experience.

 

Historical Society

On April 5 at 7 p.m. the Richmond Hill Historical Society is pleased to present Tally Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland will be discussing the Life and Times of the Civil War Soldier. Prior to retiring from the National Park Service he was the director at Fort Pulaski.

Mr. Kirkland is now spending time at our own Fort McAllister and is an expert on the Civil War Era.

The April meeting has been moved from the Wetlands Center to the Richmond Hill Library. Call the Richmond Hill Historical Society Museum at (912)756-3697 for information.

 

RHMS band

The Richmond Hill Wildcat Band Boosters (RHWBB) - -supporting the RH Middle School Band Program-- is hosting its 4th annual spaghetti dinner on Saturday, March 31 from 5-8 p.m. in the RHMS cafeteria. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under.

Entertainment will be provided by RHMS band students in a variety of groupings. Several students will also be available "for hire" to play from a "request list" for additional donations. Desserts will be available for purchase, either single servings or whole cakes/pies/etc.

The menu will include spaghetti, green beans, garlic bread, and iced tea.

Scholarships

The Coastal Electric Cooperative Foundation is accepting applications for the 2007 Foundation Scholarship. The deadline to apply is March 30. The Foundation will award in May six $1,000 scholarships to help people further their education.

Residents of south Bryan, Liberty and McIntosh counties who are graduating seniors, college students or adult students returning to school are eligible to apply.

Easter egg hunt

Pembroke will have its city-wide Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m. at DuBose Square (located at the corner of Ledford and Gibson Street).

Activities will include face painting, a visit from the Easter bunny, crafts, prizes and goodie bags for the kids, and of course, the annual Easter egg hunt. Don’t forget to bring your Easter basket!
