Attorney Kathryn Shelton was sworn in as a new volunteer for Atlantic Area Court Appointed Special Advocates on July 16 in Bryan County.
Shelton was sworn in by Judge C. Jean Bolin in Bryan County Juvenile Court.
Atlantic Area C.A.S.A. is a nonprofit organization where citizen volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children.
According to state law, a C.A.S.A. or Guardian Ad Litem, should be appointed to each child who is found deprived by a juvenile judge. However, there is a lack of volunteers in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit.
