A Richmond Hill business owner raised more than $61,000 for the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association during the Dancing Stars of Coastal Georgia event Friday at Savannah’s International Trade and Convention Center.

Catherine Grant, co-owner, founding partner and physician’s assistant at The Urgent Care Center of Richmond Hill, won the People’s Choice Award for raising the record total. Her total exceeded the previous year’s record of $37,000 by 65 percent.

Grant took part in memory of her grandmother, Ann Sanford, and grandfather, Thomas B. Gilbert, as well as to honor her business partner’s mother, Joanna Bernard.

Competing against nine other dancing couples, Grant and her professional partner, Joseh Marion, performed a bolero and cha-cha routine for an audience of around 850 people.

“I have found it difficult to put into words what an incredible experience it has been being a part of the Dancing Stars of Coastal Georgia for the Alzheimer’s Association this year,” Grant said. “‘Thank you’ just doesn’t seem to adequately convey the deep sense of gratitude I feel for everyone who contributed (in so many ways) to our success.”

“We are hoping to raise around $230,000 this year, and this would not have been possible without the shining star that Catherine is for Alzheimer’s,” said Deborah Heddendorf, community outreach director of the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Lori Gaylor, fellow owner and founder of The Urgent Care Center of Richmond Hill, said, “We are all so proud of Catherine’s tremendous achievement at the Dancing Stars of Coastal Georgia and invite the community to celebrate her success and our six years’ anniversary at our Business After Hours event on Thursday, June 18.”

The party, slated to run from 5:30-7:30 p.m., will be at the center, 60 Exchange St., Suite B-7, in Richmond Hill. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served, Stewart Marshall will entertain guests with music and attendees will have a chance to meet the center’s staff, learn more about the business and celebrate with the winning team.
