SAVANNAH — Pride Pools will host its second annual Big Green Egg Fest/Cook-off fundraiser from 11 a.m-3 p.m.  Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 Gateway Blvd. S in the Savannah Festival Outlet Center.

Proceeds from the event will benefit “The Matthew Freeman Project: Pens and Paper for Peace,” an initiative inspired by Richmond Hill native Marine Capt. Matthew Freeman, who was killed in action in 2009 in Afghanistan.

The judging for the cook off will take place at 1 p.m. and prizes will be awarded immediately after.

In addition to the cook-off and a demonstration by a  Big Green Egg representative, there will be games and trick-or-treating for the kids.

Shortly before being killed, Freeman called his mother, Lisa, and said that children there would rather have pens and paper than food and water and that he would like a collection of those items started.
