Donny Branch grew up with a rod and reel in his hands. His father, the late Allen Branch (Ol’ Tight Line), moved the family to Colonel’s Island in 1951 and owned Branch’s Marina. Allen Branch pioneered conservation issues to protects species and the area’s pristine coastline.
Growing up around seafood, Donny Branch developed a few recipes that can whet the appetite of anyone longing for a fresh seafood meal.
Here are his top five ways to enjoy shrimp:

• Grilled: Branch said he grills shrimp over charcoal and marinates it in a mix of honey mustard barbecue sauce, soy sauce, a few dashes of Louisiana and Frank’s Hot Sauce, fresh orange juice, pepper and
Tony Chachere’s seasoning.

• Boiled: Branch swears by good, old boiled shrimp with Old Bay seasoning and homemade cocktail sauce

• Pan seared: The angler said he calls this one “Tight Line Jr.’s Lowcountry shrimp.” Start by sautéing garlic, red onions and olive oil. Toss in the shrimp, sprinkle with Tony Chachere’s seasoning and lots of pepper.

• Miss Kitty’s shrimp and rice: Branch said his mom’s recipe mixing shrimp and rice was always a special treat. He said his mom also made a shrimp dip that was second to none.

Deep Fried: Branch has a recipe for what he calls Tight Line Jr.’s Frosted Flakes Shrimp. Without giving away his secret recipe he said it involved a batter which included egg whites, frosted flakes, light self rising flour, pepper and Tony Shack’s seasoning. The shrimp are then deep fried to perfection.
