Get ready, Marvel fanboys and fangirls. Everyones favorite rodent-themed superheroine, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, could actually be making it into the MCU, but probably not in the form some were hoping to see.

And for everyone else, no, this is not a joke. There really is a character named Squirrel Girl, aka Doreen Green, she really is a fan favorite, and yes, her powers do include a fluffy brown tail and the ability to talk to squirrels.

According to TVLine, Marvel and ABC are developing a New Warriors comedy TV series that would feature Squirrel Girl as one of the main characters in a team that is essentially a teenage version of the Avengers.

While that could be very good news because, seriously, who doesnt want to see more of Marvels comedy side? the bad part is that it likely rules out any possibility of Anna Kendricks involvement.

The Pitch Perfect actress, who, at 31 years old, is probably too old to be playing a teenager (assuming that is the direction the series goes), made headlines recently when she expressed interest in playing the character during an interview.

My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should, Kendrick told Net-A-Porter. I dont know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!"

What Squirrel Girl does, for the record, includes single-handedly taking down nearly every major villain in the Marvel universe at one point or another, including Doctor Doom and Thanos, the big bad set to menace the Captain America and his superfriends in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Kendricks comments got Squirrel Girls fan base chattering, and she even racked up a couple votes of confidence from the Captain America: Civil War directing duo the Russo Bros., who told Yahoo Movies, It would be perfect casting, and were huge Anna Kendrick fans.

Shaun of the Dead filmmaker Edgar Wright, who famously walked out on directing Ant-Man after years collaborating with Marvel to develop it (he ultimately got a writing credit on the film) also gave her a big thumbs-up, according to slashfilm.com.

But Kendrick isnt the only actress who has expressed interest in playing the character.

Stranger Things actress Shannon Purser, has also made it known that she wants the part. In an interview with Revelist (via ScreenRant), she explained, I think Squirrel Girl is just adorable but at the same time is totally boss and completely awesome. I think people need a character like that. Its easy in the superhero realm to feel like a lot of the female superheroes we see are grown women who are super responsible and know what their purpose is and that kind of thing.

"Squirrel Girl is a little bit younger and like a real person, trying to figure out her life and then also having to save the world. I love that," she said.

In addition to her superhero antics, Squirrel Girl, who first appeared in the 1992 Marvel Super-Heroes Vol. 2, No. 8, has also worked as the nanny to Jessica Jones and Luke Cages daughter, so maybe shell show up in Netflixs Defenders TV series, too. (Dont hold your breath.)
