Cpl. David Hicks of the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office recently visited each elementary school in the county to donate flashlights to every teacher.
Hicks has been the CHAMPS (Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods promoting Safety) instructor in schools since 2008 and was able to purchase the flashlights using grant money the sheriff’s office received.
The flashlights were chosen for their size and sturdiness for teachers to keep in their classroom safety kits.
Hicks said Sheriff Clyde Smith wanted to make the donation “because teachers put in a lot of time with their students and often spend their own money” on classroom needs.
