Sophia Cerrone, a senior at Richmond Hill High School, has earned the Homer Hitt Scholarship from the University of New Orleans.

The full academic scholarship provides tuition, residence hall room and board and a $500 annual book stipend for students.

The Homer Hitt Scholarships are aimed at top students who have received an ACT score of 30 or SAT score of 1400 and at least a 3.5 GPA. Cerrone also went through an interview process and was one of 15 students from around the country selected to receive the scholarship.

Cerrone will study naval architecture and marine engineering at UNO.
