John Phifer was selected to receive the Melvene D. Hardee Scholarship at Valdosta State University.
A 2009 graduate of Richmond Hill High School, Phifer plans to receive a bachelor’s degree in political science, with a minor in aerospace studies, in 2013.
He is a member of the VSU Detachment 172 Air Force ROTC and participates in intramural student recreational sports.
He also volunteers with Lowndes County Animal Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Heritage House, VSU Police Department, Valdosta Manor, American Red Cross and Relay For Life.
Phifer is the son of John and Pauline Phifer of Richmond Hill.
