Carver Elementary students cheer after taping Principal Karen Smith to a wall at the school. The activity was one of the innovative fundraisers dreamed up by fifth-grade teacher Shelby Sainz, who is the building representative at Carver for United Way. Many of the activities included students. Among them were a hat day and a penny war between the 4th- and 5th-grades. The last fundraiser, wall stuck, let students buy tape to hang the principal on a wall. The fundraising and teacher contributions have raised $6,470 for United Way.
