Researchers at Georgia Southern University are getting federal money to study emissions from biofuels.

The $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy will allow the university's Renewable Energy Laboratory in Statesboro to buy equipment capable of analyzing the exhaust from engines running on biofuels.

The results can then be compared to emissions from engines burning gasoline or diesel fuel.

Georgia Southern officials say those studies will help make sure biofuels are truly environmentally beneficial. They say Georgia Southern will be one of the few campuses in the nation with specialized equipment for studying biofuel emissions.
