SAVANNAH — Armstrong State University has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Military Friendly Public Universities and Colleges by Victory Media, the publisher of G.I. Jobs, STEM Jobs and Military Spouse.

The 2016 designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.

“Those earning the 2016 Military Friendly designation demonstrate a strong connection between classroom learning and career development,” Daniel Nichols, chief product officer of Victory Media, said. “They’re moving the needle beyond ‘why recruit military’ to translating military competencies into training and positive employment after graduation.”

Armstrong has been awarded the Military Friendly designation for seven consecutive years and received recognition this year as a Top Military Friendly Institution in the fields of security and corrections and technology and telecommunications.

Institutions of higher learning competed for the title by completing a survey covering 10 indicators of success, which include support for student veterans on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, military spouse policies and policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

Armstrong offers a Green Zone initiative to support active duty military students and veterans on campus and waives all mandatory fees for active duty military. The university is also part of a network that guarantees transferability of credits for military students, provides in-state tuition for members of the military and their families and offers college credit for military experience.

As a complement to Armstrong’s main campus in Savannah, the university operates the Armstrong Liberty Center in Hinesville, which helps members of the military community and their families pursue higher education and earn college degrees in key fields in Liberty County.
