Three Bryan County students were named grade-level winners in the Young Georgia Authors contest, the state Department of Education announced recently.

The local winners among 17 southeast Georgia districts were:

• Lauren Smith, Richmond Hill Elementary, second grade, “Blue Marine”

• Caren Bausch, Richmond Hill Middle, seventh grade, “Fragile Transparency”

• Christina McKinley, 10th grade, Richmond Hill High, “Lights and Ribbons”

The annual competition is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Council of Teachers of English.
