Skins down Vidalia in softball

POSTED: September 7, 2017 12:15 p.m.

The Bryan County softball team beat Vidalia — state runners up in AA last season — 4-3 at home Wednesday afternoon.

Coach Al Butler said it was the first time in three years that the Redskins had beaten the Indians. Vidalia beat Bryan County 12-1 earlier this season.

Freshman Daxne Carrera had a home run and Audrey Williams went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Bryan County is now 10-4 overall and 3-3 in Region 2-AA.

“This was a huge win, more of a mental victory than anything else,” Butler said. “Now these girls know they can win.”

Butler said three years ago the Redskins beat Vidalia twice during the regular season, including one game by mercy rule and one on a squeeze play in the eighth inning. Vidalia swept Bryan County in the playoffs later that year and had not lost to the Redskins again until Wednesday.

“At that time, they hadn’t been run ruled in 10 years,” Butler said. “I guess we woke the sleeping dog. Finally got our mentality back over them.”
