Apartment fire displaces families in Pembroke

Update: The North Bryan Chamber of Commerce is reporting seven families lost belongings, and is seeking donations. 

Several Pembroke families were displaced after fire destroyed at least six apartments in the Old Mill Apartments complex late Thursday night.

No injuries were reported. 

The fire, which destroyed at least six apartments in the complex on the 500 block of Strickland Street, was called in around 10 p.m., according to Pembroke Public Safety Director Bill Collins. 

Collins said when Pembroke firefighters arrived, the units were already fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters from Pembroke, Bryan County, Effingham County and Claxton responded to the blaze.

It s unclear what started the fire.
