Everything is part of God's plan

POSTED: March 26, 2018 5:30 p.m.

As we celebrate Palm Sunday, we are reminded of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem shortly before he was crucified.

In Matthew 21:2-3, Jesus had a plan as he entered Jerusalem. He told two of his disciples to go and fetch him a donkey and that a colt would be tied to her. He went on to say that if anyone should say anything to them, they should say, "The Lord has need of them, and immediately he will send them."

God had a plan, and he revealed it to men thousands of years before Jesus even came to Earth. In Zechariah 9:9, it was prophesied that Jesus would enter Jerusalem and be worshipped while riding on a donkey. The disciples, as well as the donkey, were a small part of God’s plan.

Jesus knew that he was going to Jerusalem and there would be a donkey tied up and waiting for him in the village. He had it all planned out.

The people believed Jesus was the Christ, the one who would rise to power and free the people from the hardships placed on them by the Romans. So they shouted praises of joy when they saw him.

Little did they know the plan Jesus had was to free the people not from the Romans, but from their sins. Jesus gave the gift of everlasting life, which is available to all who call on the name of Lord.

It is God’s plan and very important that we not only believe in our hearts that Jesus is our King, but that we proclaim with our mouths that he is our King (Romans 10:9-10).

The multitude in Matthew 21:8-11 was part of the plan as they lined up in the street and took off their coats and laid palm branches in the street for Jesus to ride over. As they followed, they cried out saying, "Hosanna to the son of David, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest."

This was a celebration that was only done for a triumphant king. They spoke out publicly and boldly about something they believed in. They were proclaiming Jesus as their king. When was the last time you spoke out publicly and boldly about our Savior?

You and I are a part of God’s plan of salvation since the foundation of the world. We could not save ourselves, so we are to proclaim that Jesus saves and that he’s our plan of salvation.

God knew we would need a savior before man was created, and he had a plan to send us his son to die in our place. I am so glad that Jesus is triumphant over sin and death.

Colossians 2:15 says, "And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross."

When Jesus died on the cross, he conquered our enemies for us. It was part of the plan.
