Children can learn good traits

Pastor's corner

POSTED: February 24, 2018 5:30 p.m.

I know that little children watch what their parents or siblings do and try to mimic their actions. This can be good or bad according to the action.

It becomes a wonderful thing when good examples are not only followed immediately, but that they become ingrained in their minds to where they become habits.

I saw this take place last week when several of the grandkids were over to spend the night. As our normal practice before the kids go to bed, we have prayer with them.

The two older kids said their prayers then I looked up at their younger sibling who is 20 months old, who was quietly playing on the floor.

I didn’t know how he would react, but I asked him if he wanted to say his prayers. Surprisingly, he put his hands together and bowed his head, then muttered some sounds.

I knew that he had been watching his family pray over and over again and kind of knew what to do.

We can teach those entrusted to us to not only follow good things we do, but they can become traits in their life that are passed down to their children as well.

They can truly say with the Apostle Paul in scripture, "Follow me as I follow Christ."
