STATE CHAMPS AGAIN!!!

POSTED: February 12, 2018 8:56 a.m.

A month after capturing the AAAAAA team dual state title, the Richmond Hill wrestling team won the AAAAAA traditional team title Saturday in Macon.

The traditional state meet crowns individual champions in each weight class for every class size, but also tracks team total points based on individual finishes.

“What a weekend, or better yet, what a season,” Coach Bob Parker said.

The Wildcats finished with 153.5 points, far ahead of second-place South Paulding's 124 points.

Reaching the finals and finishing second for Richmond Hill were Kaleb Anderson at 106 pounds, Will Evans at 145 pounds and Taylor Wilson at 195 pounds.

Jakeem Littles finished third at 152 pounds, while Michael Allen (113), Kamdyn Munro (138) and Kevin Murry (182) took fourth places. Akeem Littles took fifth at 160 pounds.

“They were as good as we thought they could be,” Parker said of his entire team. “They worked hard from one year ago until the very end.”

The Wildcats finished third at last year’s traditional team meet, with Taylor winning an individual state title at 182 pounds.

As he did after the team dual state title, Parker again gave credit to his assistant coaches — Bill Evans, Jeff DelGrosso and Mark Foreman.

“This happened because the kids bought into our vision,” he said. “I am truly blessed to be part of this journey.”

After Saturday’s meet, Evans was named assistant coach of the year for the entire state.

“We always talk about how a grain of sand has a choice to make went it meets adverse pressure,” Parker added. “It will turn into coal and crumble or stay strong and become a diamond. We asked them to score bonus points as often as they could to give us a chance and boy did they ever.

“Our parents who were there provided the greatest cheering section ever,” Parker continued. “The guys wrestled their hearts out and left nothing on the mat. I hope they all know how much I love them and will always be here for them.”
