The Bryan County and Richmond Hill girls’ basketball teams both stand at 6-2 as they start looking ahead to their respective holiday tournaments.

The Redskins dropped to 2-2 in Region 2-AA, however, after a 62-36 loss at No. 4-ranked Swainsboro Tuesday night. Bryan County beat Screven County 48-6 Saturday behind 20 points and seven rebounds from Olanna Rawls while Jay Black added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

“We are battling injuries and youth and they did a good job of capitalizing on our turnovers,” Coach Mario Mincey said of Tuesday’s loss. “We need to make some adjustments moving forward and work to get better at both ends of the court.”

The Richmond Hill girls’ team, meanwhile, suffered its second loss of the season Tuesday, dropping a 51-47 game at home to Tattnall County. Both of the Wildcats’ losses this year have come against the Warriors.

The Wildcats outscored Tattnall 34-22 in the second half, but fell short after being outscored 29-13 in the first half. Richmond Hill beat Windsor Forest 61-35 at home Saturday.

The Bryan County boys’ team is now 3-5 overall and 0-4 in Region 2-AA after losing 73-58 to Swainsboro Tuesday. The Redskins beat Screven 64-58 Saturday behind 25 points from Jaylin James. Brian Meyer added 16.

“This was a great win for the program,” Coach Brent Anderson said. “Screven has a great team with several college prospects.”

The Richmond Hill boys’ team is now 4-4 on the season, having lost to Windsor Forest 61-59 Saturday and beating Tattnall County 53-49 Tuesday. Sheldon Lewis led the team in scoring in both games, with 12 against the Knights and 21 against the Warriors. Eric Jones added 12 points and 10 rebounds against Tattnall.

The Redskins host Vidalia Friday and travel to Claxton Saturday, then host Long County Tuesday. The girls’ team will play Dec. 29-30 in a holiday tournament at Savannah High School, while the boys will do the same Dec. 27-29 at Vidalia.

For Richmond Hill, the girls’ team plays in the Savannah Holiday Tournament this coming Friday-Monday, while the boys travel to the Jacksonville, Fla., area for a tournament Dec. 21-23.
