RH native completes Cadet Advanced Camp

POSTED: October 28, 2017 7:00 a.m.

Richmond Hill native Zachery F. Bringer, an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, has graduated from the Cadet Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Advanced Camp is a 30-day summer training event focused on training cadets to solve complex leadership issues and problems at the company level. Advanced Camp places cadets in leadership positions for assessment of performance. This assessment, combined with measurable task results, prepares cadets for the initial challenges of being an Army officer.

Cadets arrive at Advanced Camp with a baseline of military skill sets; the cadets also have developed critical thinking and problem solving abilities during the academic years. Advanced Camp builds upon the work accomplished on campus and develops the cadet's small unit leadership ability in a tactical environment.

The leadership experience supports continued cadet development during the senior year of the program. Cadets usually attend Advanced Camp between their junior and senior years of college, and they must complete the course to qualify for commissioning. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program, and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve.

Bringer is the son of Analyn and Christopher Bringer of Richmond Hill and a 2014 graduate of Richmond Hill High School.
