Schools announce make-up day

POSTED: September 20, 2017 3:49 p.m.

Students in Bryan County Schools will make up one of the four days they missed due to Hurricane Irma.

Superintendent Paul Brooksher announced that Oct. 23 will now be an instructional day. It was to have been a student holiday and a teacher work day as part of of a planned fall break. Students will still be off Oct. 18-20.

Schools were closed Sept. 8 and 11-13 due to the storm. The board waived the other three days.

"The board's unanimous support of this recommendation highlight's its continued commitment to faculty, staff and students," Brooksher said.

During the 2015-2016 school year, classes were canceled six days due to Hurricane Matthew and one day due to Tropical Storm Hermine. The board waived three of those days and four days were made up by shortening Christmas break by two days canceling a planned four-day weekend as part of the President's Day holiday.
