POSTED: September 20, 2017 11:05 a.m.

AUGUSTA - After losing four days of school and seeing last week's game canceled due to Hurricane Irma, the Richmond Hill football team was ready to play.

Grovetown learned that the hard way as the Wildcats went on the road to Augusta and left with a 37-7 win.

"I'm proud of our guys," Coach Matt LeZotte said. "The task at hand wasn't easy, playing an opponent that had all week to prepare."

LeZotte said he was particularly pleased with his team's explosive first half, which saw the Wildcats jump out to a 30-0 halftime lead.

Sam James scored three touchdowns, two receiving and one rushing, and had seven catches for 107 yards. Quarterback Kasey Green was 13-for-20 passing for 214 yards and three touchdowns, including three passes to Aaron Bedgood for 76 yards and a score.

Kicker Joseph Petrino connected on three field goals, including a 52-yarder, and was 4-for-4 on extra points.

The Wildcats' defense was led by Nico DeCosta, who had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery, and Ronald Fuselier, who added nine tackles and had an interception.

There is still no word on whether Richmond Hill, now 3-0, will make up its game from last week against Pierce County. That appears unlikely as it is not a region game. The Wildcats host Lakeside Evans at 7:30 p.m. next Friday. The Panthers are 0-3 and have managed to score just three points all year.

"We don't care about records," LeZotte said. "We're going to prepare like its the Green Bay Packers. As long as we come out at a high level and perform efficiently early, we should be able to dictate the outcome."

Bryan County's game this week against Toombs County was rescheduled to Oct. 6. The Redskins host Swainsboro at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
