Deputies dispatch alligator

POSTED: June 13, 2017 9:46 a.m.

Northbound U.S. 17 near Fish Camp Road was shut down Monday afternoon after a report of two vehicles striking an alligator in the roadway, according to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.

A report says deputies were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. and found the alligator, measured at 9 feet, “still alive and very active.”

The report goes on to say that a deputy discharged his duty weapon twice into the alligator’s head. Deputies then dragged the alligator from the roadway to allow traffic to pass, but fired into its head two more times.

“After monitoring the alligator for several minutes the alligator was still alive and opening its mouth,” the report states.

The deputy then shot the alligator a fifth and sixth time, also in the head.

“These two shots rendered the alligator from being any further threat,” according to the report.
