George Washington Carver Elementary School teacher Teresa Caldwell has something to celebrate after recently being named as the school’s Teacher of the Year.

Caldwell was among seven other teachers who were in the running for the award. She was nominated by her peers and then selected by members of a committee.

"I was very surprised when my name was announced as Teacher of the Year," Caldwell said. "I was nominated alongside many other experienced and devoted teachers. I have learned so much from the teachers that I work with, and it is humbling to be selected from the staff members at my school."

Caldwell has been at Carver since January 2009. She teaches language, math, reading, science and social studies to fifth-graders.
